Editors, Vineyard Gazette;
We are writing on behalf of the Nantucket Flying Association (NFA) a nonprofit that sponsors general aviation activities including a youth aviation camp that recently completed its 18th year. The highlight of camp was an opportunity for each young person to take a flying lesson under the direction of a certified flight instructor from Chatham-based Stick’n Rudder Aero Tours. These flights flew a triangle from Nantucket to Martha’s Vineyard to Chatham and then back to ACK.
The flights followed several days of instruction, so campers were well prepared for their aviation adventure. The highlight of this adventure was the stop at the Vineyard and the gracious welcome from the team at the Martha’s Vineyard Airport, including tours and a gift bag. Our campers loved the visit there.
This year, NFA was particularly lucky as the weather was perfect, making for an enjoyable day of flying. Residents and travelers are fortunate to have such a professional team at MVY, led by airport manager Geoff Freeman and fixed base operations manager Jeff Gendreau. They both responded so well to our young people, many of whom had never been to the Vineyard before.
We now look forward to planning the 19th year of our youth aviation camp and Martha Vineyard Airport’s role in it.
