Edgartown Town Column: Week Ending August 22
We have had some nice relief from the heat and the humidity. It is nice to enjoy being outside and doing whatever your favorite activity is.
We have had some nice relief from the heat and the humidity. It is nice to enjoy being outside and doing whatever your favorite activity is. While I write this, we are watching the path of Erin, and even though we need rain, I hope she passes by peacefully.
Happy Birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons to out to the school children who celebrated their day. Hope it was all you wanted it to be.
Happy Anniversary wishes go out to my neighbors Chip and Christina Hall who celebrated their 28th wedding anniversary on August 16. They are here for a few weeks. It is nice to see lights on across the street and have a great chance to celebrate.
Fall is starting to knock on the door. Yes, we have the rest of August go but the signs are there. The bees at the nursery are buzzing back and forth among the flowers, the butterflies are gliding around the nursery, the sunflowers are blooming and even though some of the petals are gone they are still on display because the gold finches are enjoying the seeds.
The butter in the dish is still soft but not melted, the fishermen are preparing for the derby in a few weeks, people are at the beach getting in their last swim and sun before they return to their off-Island homes, there is a little bit of activity at the school, T-shirts and long sleeves are part of the wardrobe now.
There is talk of chrysanthemums, ornamental grasses and asters arriving, windows can be open at night, it does not get light until after 5 am, and it is dark just a little after 8 p.m.
You can get into your parked car without burning your legs on the seat, Halloween candy is starting to appear on the shelves and wedding season is about to begin.
So, yes, fall is almost here.
Seeing we are talking about fall, I might also mention that there are 16 Fridays until Christmas. I think it sounds more frightening when you say weeks instead of months. Just a heads up so we don’t have to panic the first week of December.
Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
