Edgartown Town Column: Week Ending August 15

We were spoiled by a week of cool dry weather that everyone enjoyed. Then Mother Nature turned it around and gave us back the heat and humidity reminding us it is still August, and she is still in charge.

We were spoiled by a week of cool dry weather that everyone enjoyed. Then Mother Nature turned it around and gave us back the heat and humidity reminding us it is still August, and she is still in charge. With all the tropical depressions forming we will leave her alone and hope she passes us by.

Happy Birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to all those school kids who celebrated their day this past week and hope they enjoyed their day.

August, the month of heat and excitement as all the events are about to take place. People are getting ready to return home, and kids are getting ready for school and college. The gardens are struggling and the tomatoes are ripening, Morning Glory has corn, and the bonito are in. I think it is a good month.

My neighbor Dana rents her house for the summer. I have been very lucky that all the renters are nice; they are quiet and enjoy the Vineyard life. My niece Tina came over one night and asked if I would like to go next door and have dessert with her friends. Unfortunately, I could not go over that night, but I did meet Kathy. Kathy and Ron Kinzer, who are related to Jon and Tina’s church friends, have been coming to the Island for over 20 years and have been friends with them that long.

Kathy and Ron celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary here. It was a chance meeting on a bus in college in Virginia when they met, and the rest is history.  hey have three daughters: Lisa, Julie and Michelle. Michelle was here with her husband Dean. They had a great week and lots of time at the beach.  Hopefully, we can make connections next year.

Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
