Ravizza’s Island Case Dropped Due to Lack of Witness Cooperation

Jared Ravizza, who is facing a murder charge in Connecticut, had his Vineyard assault case from 2024 dismissed in court Thursday.

An Island resident who is facing a murder charge in Connecticut had his Vineyard assault case dismissed in court Thursday.

Edgartown District Court Judge Benjamin Barnes dismissed the assault and battery and vandalizing property charges that were filed against Jared Ravizza in connection with an incident at his home in West Tisbury last year.

Mr. Ravizza, 28, allegedly attacked his father on April 14, 2024, at their West Tisbury home while Mr. Ravizza was having a mental breakdown, according to a West Tisbury police report.

In court Thursday, Cape and Islands assistant district attorney Aileen Kirwin said that the father did not want to cooperate with the prosecution, causing Judge Barnes to allow calls by Mr. Ravizza’s attorney to drop the case.

Mr. Ravizza still faces charges in Connecticut for the alleged killing of his friend Bruce Feldman, according to authorities. Mr. Ravizza also was indicted last year for allegedly stabbing four girls in a Braintree movie theatre and two McDonald’s employees at the highway rest stop in Plymouth.

Mr. Ravizza did not appear before the Edgartown court Thursday for the West Tisbury case due to a scheduling issue with the Plymouth County Correctional Facility, where he is being held as the mainland cases go forward.

West Tisbury police were called to a State Road home in April 2024 after Mr. Ravizza’s father said his son trashed the home and assaulted him.

At the time, police noted that Mr. Ravizza appeared intoxicated and talked about nonsensical things about the “deep state,” masons and how his father wanted him dead, according to the West Tisbury police report.

Mr. Ravizza was allowed to enter a pretrial diversion program that lets defendants avoid prosecution if they undergo certain rehabilitative services.

After the alleged stabbings and the death of Mr. Feldman, the Cape and Island’s District Attorney’s Office asked to restore the West Tisbury case and Mr. Ravizza was arraigned in November. He pleaded not guilty to the charges.

With his Vineyard case concluded, Mr. Ravizza remains in custody for the two Massachusetts cases connected to the stabbing spree and the Connecticut case has not yet begun.

Mr. Ravizza appears to have lived on and off the Island at times. Originally from Agawam, court and police records list him as having addresses in West Tisbury and Chilmark.
