Comedian couple Tom Cotter and Kerri Louise are back on the Island for a performance at the Martha’s Vineyard Film Society on Friday, July 25.
Frequent Vineyard and Cape Cod performer Gary Marino will host the show.
Mr. Cotter and Ms. Louise have been married for 24 years and say they enjoy working together while on the road. They also perform individually. Mr. Cotter’s comedy has been showcased on America’s Got Talent, where he finished as runner up, as well as on shows such as the Howard Stern Show, the Late Late Show and The Tonight Show. Ms. Louise has appeared on the Howard Stern show, Oprah, and Dr. Oz. She was also a finalist on NBC’s Last Comic Standing.
“Nothing is off limits,” they said. “Although we don’t want to hurt anyone in the audience, we can hurt ourselves as much as we want.”
When performing together, the husband-wife duo try to integrate their separate styles and have fun while doing it.
“It is really difficult to mix [Ms. Louise’s] storytelling comedy with [my] one liner comedy…so it really is like putting together a puzzle,” Mr. Cotter said.
Although they did not grow up in Massachusetts, Mr. Cotter and Ms. Louise said they consider themselves Boston comics, having long been a part of Boston’s comedy scene.
As a child, Mr. Cotter would also take trips to the Vineyard, Nantucket, and the Cape. They now own a home in the “armpit of the Cape,” joked Ms. Louise.
And for anyone heading to their show on Friday, the couple added a bit of advice: “alcohol makes us funnier.”
