The 47th annual Possible Dreams auction takes place Sunday, July 20 at Allen Farm in Chilmark.
Proceeds from the event benefit Martha’s Vineyard Community Services, which provides a multitude of services to Islanders, including mental health care, addiction recovery support and childcare services.
Comedian and late-night show host Seth Meyers returns this year as the master of ceremonies.
Dean Teague, Community Services CEO, said he is excited to take part in his first Possible Dreams. Mr. Teague took over leadership of the organization in March.
“We’re looking forward to the camaraderie, taking care of the community and just sharing everything that we do for community services with the folks that come to these events,” he said.
This year’s auction will focus on MVCS’ early childhood support programs, said Patrick Ramage, the organization's chief advancement officer.
“There’s going to be some program representation from that work, and then we anticipate that a parent of some kids involved in the program are going to be speaking about the importance of that work on Island and how it’s benefited their family and the community,” he said.
The Possible Dreams auction often specializes in unique experiences. The year’s items for bid include dinner with Seth Meyers, a signed commemorative album poster by Carly Simon, a villa stay in Tuscany and tickets to see the Washington Capitals.
The organization is excited to welcome Mr. Meyers back as host.
“It’s been a tremendous success, and it continues the proud tradition of an American humorist hosting,” Mr. Ramage said.
Organizing the event has been a group effort, according to Mr. Ramage, who is completing his first month in the new role. Board members Nancy Monestime-Williams and Liza May have been instrumental in preparing for the auction, he said.
“I’ve never seen two board members working as hard as they are in preparation for this event and it speaks to the community nature of the event and its proud history,” Mr. Ramage said. “It’s been inspiring, a bit of a baptism by fire for me, having just come on board, but the core committee that we have, the board members, and some staff volunteers and community volunteers have been terrific.”
The support from the Island drives the success of the event.
“We’re really looking forward to it and we really appreciate the kindness and generosity as well,” Mr. Ramage said.
