Sara Bareilles, named one of the Top 100 Greatest Women in Music in 2012 by VH1, will be taking the stage at the Tabernacle this summer as part of a fundraising concert for the Martha’s Vineyard Camp Meeting Association.
Ms. Bareilles is perhaps best known for her second studio album Little Voice, featuring the hit single, Love Song, as well as for composing music and writing the lyrics of the Broadway musical Waitress.
Kim Rielly, general manager of the Martha’s Vineyard Camp Meeting Association, said they are beyond excited to be hosting Ms. Bareilles this summer.
“She’s such a tremendous award-winning singer, songwriter, actor, all of the things,” Ms. Rielly said. “She’s an amazing and timely artist, her Broadway connections as well as her professional singing, we’re really excited to have her here.”
The show takes place on August 9, beginning at 7:30 p.m.. Local artist Phil deRosa will be the opening act. All ticket sales will benefit the work of the Martha’s Vineyard Camp Meeting Association in preserving the campground.
“Theres a mutual respect for the architectural heritage and maintaining the historic integrity of the iconic gingerbread cottages and so the proceeds of this benefit concert, and donations in general, really foster a support of keeping this place the way it is and the way it was for the grandchildren and great grandchildren of the cottage owners that are here now,” Ms. Rielly said.
“The tabernacle season began with the Island graduation ceremonies.... I really can’t wait to hear the iconic Sara Bareilles in our wonderful space,” she added.
