Atlantic Drive in Edgartown has reopened after being closed for months due to winter storm damage.
Edgartown highway department superintendent Allan de Bettencourt reported Friday that the road, which had a sinkhole open up in December and a nearby culvert fail in a subsequent storm, was patched up and open to traffic again.
The road, which runs parallel to South Beach, will still need some work going forward as the town prepares to get the whole area ready for summer.
“Additional repairs to various locations as well as asphalt repair to the two impacted areas will be completed within the next several weeks,” Mr. de Bettencourt wrote in an email to town officials.
Edgartown town administrator James Hagerty had previously said the town was aiming to get the road open by April 15, meeting the deadline within a few days.

Growing up in South Katama,
Robert R South KatamaGrowing up in South Katama, Atlantic Drive was a picturesque and relaxing drive to help me unwind. Later on I enjoyed walking my bulldogs and riding my trike along it's paths. The view of the Gentle airstrip on one side, the ocean on the other. Am glad to see it re-opened.
