Pump Breakdown Sidelines Sankaty

Trips aboard the ferry were cancelled Monday after its steering gear pumps were out of sync.

A Steamship Authority freight boat is out for the day after experiencing mechanical issues Monday.

The ferry line canceled trips aboard the Sankaty due to its steering gear pumps being out of sync, said spokesperson Geoff Spillane.

The problem required a vendor to come out and do repairs, which are scheduled for Tuesday morning.

In its stead, the Steamship Authority had a crew sailing the Katama ferry from Hyannis to potentially start filling for a 4:30 p.m. scheduled departure from Vineyard Haven Monday.
