Trader Fred was not only the kindest and most generous man, but he was also the greatest storyteller ever.
Editors, Vineyard Gazette;
Trader Fred was not only the kindest and most generous man, but he was also the greatest storyteller ever. To have a cocktail and cigar with him and hear him spin his embracingly entertaining tales was to relish life itself.
Just last month he told me and a few friends of story that had our heads spinning with delight and amusement. Freddy was truly one of a kind and we are all grateful for knowing him. Not just that, but probably half of us are wearing his clothes right now.
R.I.P. Freddy. Save us some cigars for when we see you next. We’ll expect some more great stories.

I met Fred about 40 years ago
John Wightman West TisburyI met Fred about 40 years ago thru a mutual friend. I was having a photography art show opening and did not have a credit card program set up for customers. When Fred heard that, he told me I absolutely needed to accept credit cards if I was to do well with large ticket items. He immediately offered his help and a solution. He said he would be my agent and I would sell thru Trader Fred’s using his credit card service. All he wanted was whatever his credit card service charge would be …. pennies on the dollar. And, anyone charging their art purchase would see Trader Fred’s appear on their credit card statement. So, for one night , Trader Fred and I were partners in business.
Bottom line, Fred jumped right in to offer a perfect solution and asked nothing in return. And , of course … Trader Fred’s became a go to source over the years for whatever …. including numerous stops to revel among the aromas of his walk in cigar humidor.
