This weekend we’ll have extreme astronomical tides. The moon will be in perigee, closer to the Earth than at any other time this month, on Sunday. That alone is not a big deal. But the moon will also be in the New Moon phase on Tuesday. These two events combine together to give us higher and lower than normal tides.

Adding trouble to these two astronomical events will be the weather. This weekend the region is forecast to have an ocean storm move up the coast. All mariners and those along the coast should be prepared for this storm.

After New Moon on Tuesday, the crescent moon will return to our early evening sky late in the coming week.
