Minor motor vehicle accidents occupied Island police over the weekend.
Edgartown police responded to a moped accident on Sunday afternoon when a husband and wife from New Jersey lost control as they turned onto Cottage street from Fuller street, according to police chief Bruce McNamee. The couple crashed into a fence. The man refused treatment, and the woman was transported to the hospital.
Police also responded to a minor crash involving a VTA bus on Sunday afternoon on Beach Road near the Triangle. A Nissan with a Pennsylvania plate was waiting to make a left turn, and the bus hit the rear bumper with its bike rack, police said.
Chief McNamee said the department has received multiple calls about dogs left in vehicles in the heat. He said even if owners are nearby and the car is well-ventilated, the dogs are likely to cause public concern.
“We caution people not to leave dogs in their cars,” he said.
On Sunday evening in West Tisbury a tractor hit a tree while turning from State Road onto Old County Road, Chief Matthew Mincone said. An attachment on the back of the tractor caused it to sway and jack-=knife as the operator made the turn, Mr. Mincone said. The operator was able to jump off the tractor before it made contact with the tree, he said.
On Monday morning at about 10:20 a.m., another operator lost control of a vehicle on Great Plains Road while trying to avoid a speed bump. The car, a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee, flipped over, and the operator crawled out of the window uninjured, Chief Mincone said.
Chief Mincone and Chilmark Chief Jonathan Klarén also reported several minor heat-related medical calls.
Tisbury police chief Mark Saloio reported a busy weekend but no unusual calls.
Chief Randhi Belain of Aquinnah reported a quiet weekend.

I smell marijuana everywhere
Steve CHILMARKI smell marijuana everywhere - This is probably related to the sudden increase in marijuana use - I grow very concerned that this will only increase - we need to put in tight measures on the new marijuana facility before we see deaths - thank you
