A federal judge this week ordered a Florida woman to repay more than $3.5 million to an elderly Martha’s Vineyard woman who was bilked for psychic services over a period of seven years.

Sally Ann Johnson, a/k/a Angela Johnson, a/k/a Angelia Johnson, a/k/a Sally Reed, 41, was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Denise J. Casper on Wednesday to 26 months in prison and ordered to repay $3.56 million to the victim along with $725,000 in restitution to the IRS.

In October 2017 Ms. Johnson pleaded guilty to tax evasion in the case.

The defendant owned and operated several business that purported to offer psychic services, including “psychic readings, spiritual cleansing and strengthening and meditation,” a press release from the U.S. Attorney’s office said Wednesday.

U.S. attorneys said between 2007 and 2014 Ms. Johnson used an alias and directed the Vineyard woman, who has not been named, to send payments to bank accounts, later withdrawing large portions of the payments from the accounts in cash. The press release also described “substantial charges on a credit card held in the name of the elderly woman, who ultimately paid the credit card bills, thereby concealing from the IRS the true extent of Johnson’s income.”

No tax returns were filed on the income.

Chilmark police assisted with the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Sandra S. Bower and Brian A. Pérez-Daple are prosecuting the case.

Don't need to be a"psychic" to know that $$ is long gone .. never to be fully recovered.. small comfort in having Miss Johnson in jail..
