An Oak Bluffs man faces an array of criminal charges following a spate of break-ins Saturday.

Felix Reagan, 20, was arrested Saturday afternoon by state police and charged with stealing a truck, possession of drugs, assaulting a police officer and cruelty to animals, after he broke into a home and painted a dog, according to a police statement.

He will also face a charge of breaking and entering to commit a felony, and destruction of property.

Oak Bluffs police responded Saturday to a report of a vehicle stolen from Upper Douglas Lane that had crashed on Firehouse Lane. The driver had fled on foot, according to police.

Shortly after arriving at the scene of the accident, police got a call about a break in at a home on Pinewood Lane.

“Officers responded and met with the victim who stated they arrived home and found a ground level window forced in,” according to the police statement. “Items were reported stolen and the victim’s dog had been painted with purple paint.”

A few minutes later, police received a call about a man staring in the windows of a nearby home.

A state police officer who had just joined the search found Mr. Reagan on Webaqua Road and placed him under arrest.

A search revealed prescription pills, a driver’s license and credit cards that had been stolen from the Pinewood Lane house, police said. “Reagan also had purple paint on his pants which was consistent with the paint that was found on the dog from the Pinewood Lane break-in,” the report said.

During the investigation, officers received two additional reports of break-ins of residences on Webaqua Road. Mr. Reagan was transported to the Oak Bluffs police station for questioning. While in the cruiser he attempted to kick out the windows and kicked an Oak Bluffs officer, the report said.

Police said there could be additional charges.

Dear Felix, There are places you can go where people will love you until you can love yourself. Cruelty to animals is a problem. No animal should ever be used as a canvas. Please put down your shovel, you've hit bottom.
