Island police officers arrested two men on cocaine distribution charges in two separate incidents this week.
According to the Edgartown police department, officers with the Martha’s Vineyard Drug Task Force arrested Everton G. Facey of Edgartown Tuesday evening after officers executed search warrants for his vehicle and residence.
Mr. Facey had been under investigation for several months by the drug task force for alleged involvement in cocaine distribution, the police department said in a press release posted on their Facebook page.
Officers stopped Mr. Facey at the intersection of Edgartown-Vineyard Haven Road and Eleventh street South and escorted him out of the vehicle, police said. During that time several small plastic bags that contained a white powdery substance believed to be cocaine allegedly fell out of the vehicle and onto the ground.
Police said they found 24 small plastic bags of the small powdery substance in the vehicle and area where it was stopped. A second search warrant used at a home on Eleventh street south, where Mr. Facey lives, allegedly revealed drug paraphernalia and packaging materials.
Mr. Facey was charged with possession to distribute a class B drug (cocaine) with intent to distribute. He was arraigned Thursday morning in Edgartown district court. Mr. Facey had originally posted $5,000 bail; the amount was lowered to $3,000 in court Thursday, officials said.
On Wednesday afternoon drug task force detectives initiated a motor vehicle stop on Beach Road in Edgartown, at the parking lot near Crab Creek. Police said the driver of the vehicle, Arthur M. Castro, 21, of Edgartown, had been investigated for alleged distribution of cocaine on the Island.
Police said a search of the vehicle allegedly showed five individual plastic bags containing a white powdery substance believed to be cocaine. The bags were concealed inside a cigarette box tucked in the plastic covering under the steering wheel, police said.
Mr. Castro was arrested and charged with possession of a class B drug (cocaine) with intent to distribute. He was also arraigned Thursday morning in Edgartown district court; court officials said he posted $800 in bail.

Drugs are so out of control on the island the island and Massachusetts are trying to get control of illegal street drugs how about commonwealth give them a steeper sentence and triple the bail... I have never heard of lowering the bail the bailif set for one that is pretty much a slap in the bailif face second I feel if they set the bail at a minimum of $5,000.00 for first time second time $10,000.00 every time after increase by $5,000.00 personally I think they should be incarcerated for a minimum of 3 years. I know being in prison for that amount of time would cost the tax payers a lot of money and they would be at full capacity everyone in the prison system would be drug dealers/ addicts . Something has to be done about all the drugs on the streets I know it's not easy but why are they pretty much getting a slap on the wrist it's just going to get worse until they give bigger sentencing. The island police and drug task force is doing a great job trying to get the drugs off the street this is not a small job or easy job a big thank you to everyone who is helping to get this crap off the streets .
