James Hagerty took the oath of office as the newest full time police officer in Oak Bluffs during a swearing-in ceremony Tuesday at the police department. Officer Hagerty fills a vacancy left by Officer Dustin Shaw, who left the department last year to accept a job with the Massachusetts State Police.
Officer Hagerty was born and raised on Martha’s Vineyard. He graduated from the high school in June 2001, and attended Northeastern University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in 2006 and an MBA in 2012. He is a captain in the U.S. Marine Corps and served two tours in Iraq, and most recently served as Company Commander of USMC Barracks in Washington D.C. Officer Hagerty graduated from the Plymouth Police Academy on March 12 and will begin his field training with the Oak Bluffs police department on March 17.

Another islander makes good
PROUD - *1969* Graduate MVRHSAnother islander makes good in a great and honorable way for his island, our country and make us very proud!
I just hope and pray that future graduates of MVRHS students look at James as a positive example of what our native sons and daughters can honorably achieve and realize that there are no excuses for failures in their lives!
We salute you Mr Hagerty and thank you for your service!
