Ms. Vaid, 20, began this week as one of the eight finalists in the final season of the show. Two contestants were eliminated this week during a live show Thursday. The top five were voted in by viewers, with a sixth finalist chosen chosen by the judges to move on.

Ms. Vaid was in the bottom three as determined by voters. After performing I Have Nothing by Whitney Houston and earning praise from judges Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban and Harry Connick Jr., she was chosen to continue on in the competition.

I have been watching from the beginning the growth of this refined and gifted young lady who is obviously smart, driven, beautiful talented as each week the opportunity given to her by the American Idol experience which she has taken advantage off to watch her grow as a performer is amazing. I watch the joy she bring her parents and can't imagine the feelings as they watch there daughter and the joy and power of emotion that must evoke in them over the power, talent and beauty of there daughter HOW PROUD THEY ARE. Beautiful to see.
