Lieut. Col. Sean Smith Assumes Command

<p>Lieut. Col. Sean M. Smith, son of Michael and Lucie Smith of Edgartown, assumed a new post Jan. 29.</p>

Lieut. Col. Sean M. Smith, the son of Michael and Lucie Smith of Edgartown, assumed command of the Army’s Medium Altitude Reconnaissance and Surveillance System (MARSS) Project Management Office on Jan. 29 in a ceremony held at Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland.

The MARSS program is chartered by the Secretary of the Army to develop, procure, field, and supply life cycle support for all the Army’s aerial intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance sensor payloads.

Lieutenant Colonel Smith commands a government-industry team and manages a budget of more than $800 million to deliver this critical capability to soldiers engaged in combat operations worldwide.

He is a 1991 graduate of Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School and a 1995 graduate of Norwich University. Lieutenant Colonel Smith also holds a Master of Science degree in acquisition, procurement, and contract management from the Florida Institute of Technology. His past assignments include deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan and time assigned to the Department of the Army Staff in the Pentagon.
