The Edgartown capital programs committee recommended $1.7 million worth of projects to selectmen at their Monday meeting, including a new ambulance, street paving and highway equipment.
The committee meets with town department heads and votes on recommendations for the coming fiscal year, which are forwarded to selectmen and the financial and advisory committee.
“Each year we ask them to update their five-year plan and to give us any article that is $100,000 or more,” said committee member Nancy Shemeth. “It gives you a picture of what’s coming down the road.”
The committee endorsed a highway department request for $775,000 to pave town streets, $200,000 to repair or replace sidewalks and $200,000 to purchase a catch basin drain cleaning machine.
Next on the wish list is the fire department, which is asking to replace an ambulance at an estimated cost of $260,000. The department also has plans to replace three fire trucks at a cost of $1.2 million in future years.
The town-owned Katama Airfield requested $167,000 to replace older in-ground fuel tanks with new above-ground tanks.
The capital program committee also voted in favor of a $102,840 expenditure by the wastewater department to offset a shortfall in the department’s hazard mitigation work.
The committee noted that it received requests for $235,000 from the harbor master for a work vessel, and $950,000 from the dredge committee to replace the dredge vessel. Ms. Shemeth said spokesmen for those departments failed to attend the committee meeting, so no vote was taken on the requests.

Let's hope they don't forget
Ken Esq EdgartownLet's hope they don't forget the bike path to go along Meetinghouse Road which is supposed to be paved. Not having to ride a bike on Meshacket will be much safer and a far better way to get to South Beach for many.
Great point and they are
Bob EdgartownGreat point and they are still working on one for Meshacket as well I hope. I know it has been talked about.
