Big Bird is coming to the Island on Thursday, July 30. That’s right, the giant yellow Sesame Street character will attend a documentary screening about its life and times on the small screen and around the world.

Since its inception 40 years ago, the character of Big Bird has been played by one man — Caroll Spinney — and on Thursday night The Martha’s Vineyard Film Festival will screen I Am Big Bird: The Caroll Spinney Story at 8 p.m. outdoors in Owen Park in Vineyard Haven. Mr. Spinney will attend the screening and answer questions afterwards.

Before the show, Mr. Spinney will give a free puppet making workshop for kids from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
