Liam Smith of Edgartown has been awarded a $1,000 scholarship from the Comcast Leaders and Achievers Scholarship Program.

Liam was one of 111 graduating high school seniors in Massachusetts to receive the honor, which was awarded in a ceremony at the State House. The award goes to students who demonstrated academic achievement, leadership and a commitment to community service, and Comcast said in a press release that Liam was honored for volunteering as a fire fighter, volunteering at freshman orientation, and acting as an apprentice school resource officer.
