Federal Assistance for Areas Affected by Storms

Local governments and eligible non-profit organizations are invited to a briefing about federal disaster assistance on May 8.

As the calendar turns to May, some thoughts are lingering on this winter’s snowstorms. In early April, President Obama approved Gov. Charlie Baker’s request for federal assistance to help with recovery efforts in areas affected by the Jan. 26 to 28 winter storm.

Federal funding is available to state, tribal and certain local governments in the 10 most impacted Massachusetts counties, including Dukes County.

The Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) will be holding briefings about the funding availability to explain the application and reimbursement process for local governments and eligible non-profit organizations. MEMA encourages communities to send representatives from local emergency management, public works and finance departments.

A Dukes County briefing is scheduled for Friday, May 8, at 11 a.m. at the Tisbury Emergency Services Building.
