Sengekontacket Pond remains closed for shellfishing because of rainfall.

Sengekontacket Pond remains closed for shellfishing. 

The town of Oak Bluffs first announced the closure earlier this week, saying it was related to rainfall that came with Hurricane Arthur. In an update posted July 10, the town said the closure would continue until Tuesday, July 15 because of rainfall that fell overnight Wednesday.

Red flags are flown by both bridges along Beach Road to indicate that the pond is closed for shellfishing. 

The pond is subject to closure after heavy rainfall in July, August and September. The pond is still safe for swimming and boating.
