A Connecticut man headed to the Vineyard was arrested Sunday night at the Steamship Authority terminal in Woods Hole after allegedly claiming to have a bomb in his vehicle.
Krzysztof Malz, 45, of New Britain, Conn., will be charged with a threat concerning the location of dangerous items (explosives), according to a statement from Falmouth police Capt. Douglas DeCosta.
According to the statement, Mr. Malz and a passenger were preparing to board the 9:45 p.m. Steamship Authority boat to Martha’s Vineyard. During a security screening at Woods Hole, Mr. Malz claimed he had a bomb in his vehicle, Captain DeCosta said.
Falmouth Police responded and, with assistance from the Massachusetts State Police bomb squad, searched the vehicle. The operator and passenger were interviewed and claimed the bomb threat was a joke, the report said.
No bomb was located, Captain DeCosta said, and the vehicle was not allowed to board the vessel.
The report said Mr. Malz was held without bail and was scheduled to be arraigned Monday in Falmouth District Court.

For years I have questioned
Vineyard GirlFor years I have questioned why we do NOT have ANY security measure on our ferry systems. I hope this situation brings light to the apparent security shortfall. SAFETY FIRST FOR ALL!
What an idiot. I really think
Vinyahdah OBWhat an idiot. I really think they need to throw the book at this moron. Great job the the WH SSA Staff and the Falmouth PD for taking this seriously. Let everyone know that we will not tolerate this type of behavior! It is not funny, and it is damaging. What a waste of state funds to call out the bomb squad, etc!
I hope he is, minimally,
Mr. B ChilmarkI hope he is, minimally, fined for all the costs involved in dealing with this: first responders, OT, etc.
